In Africa, book poverty leads to reading poverty, and vice versa.
A vicious circle
They don't like reading!
Let's put everything in the books
In West Africa, libraries are rare; books are a luxury. The lack of books discourages interest in reading, and this disinterest contributes to keeping libraries empty, stifling the potential of young people. The challenge is not only material; it is also cultural, structural, and symbolic.
Why Book Education for African Youth
The idea is to restore reading's value as a tool for personal and collective transformation. A concrete and symbolic action to initiate a new cycle of learning and emancipation through books.

A disinterest in reading
There is a lack of interest in reading among students due to lack of habit, scarcity of books, a stagnant school curriculum and low parental income.

Low parental income
Parents are more concerned about year-end success than the quality of education. On average, a parent buys their child two novels per year.

Unavailability of books
This hinders growth, creativity, and knowledge acquisition. Even if a child is very interested in reading, it is difficult to obtain it.

Maitrise d'une langue secondaire
Due to colonial heritage, the most prized secondary languages are English and German. However, we see a far too poor command of these languages among learners.
