Why "Once Upon Colonization"?

We give voice to those left out of official history, deconstruct preconceived ideas and reveal the invisible links between past and present. The story behind our podcast

What if the history of colonization you learned was only an incomplete, softened version? In our podcast "Once Upon Colonization", we open forgotten archives, let the descendants of those who lived through these events speak, and reveal the scars still visible in today's societies.

Each episode is a living investigation: unpublished testimonies, family stories, period documents and expert analyses. From Africa to America, via Europe and its former colonies, we trace the threads of a complex memory that continues to influence our contemporary world.

living stories to understand colonial heritage and its current resonances

Dive into a sensitive and documented exploration of colonization and its impacts, through testimonies, archives, artistic creations and expert analyses.

A space for dialogue between past and present

Complex Memory is an invitation: to reflect together, without complacency or hatred, on what it means to inherit a colonial history. Because these legacies are not frozen in the past: they still influence our political, cultural and identity choices.

Understanding the multiple effects, negative and positive

Rather than reducing colonization to a single reading, the exhibition highlights its multiple dimensions: losses, suffering, but also the transmissions and new creations that emerged from it. It is by confronting these complex realities that we can understand Africa, Europe and their links today.

The opportunity to amalgamate Colonization and slave trade

The slave trade was the brutal uprooting of millions of lives, reduced to the status of merchandise. Colonization, it prolonged this logic in another form: political domination, economic exploitation and forced reorganization of societies. If they are part of the same continuity, they have shaped memories and legacies differently.
